MidwestMixtapes.com will be closing at the end of this year. Lack of time and resources (contributers, money for hosting) has hindered our growth. While we’ve provided over 50 mixtapes for free download, we weren’t able to put in the time we would have liked to see the site get more exposure for Midwest artists and producers. I’m going to be starting a feature here called Way Back Wednesdays. The purpose of WBW is to feature an old school track on the site that people might not have heard or not heard for a long time. I’m wanting to showcase the history of hip hop so people don’t forget where it came from and has been. This first track is a long mix that features 800 songs in 48 minutes. A hip hop odyssey from 1979-2006. Check out this amazing mix.

Midwest Mixtapes has now given the world 30 mixtapes all for free. That’s right, there’s almost 2gbs of music for your enjoyment and it is all totally free for you. The site may be down for about 20-60 minutes tonight as hardware will be replaced on the server. Keep supporting these midwest artists and if you feel generous, help us out and donate now so we can continue to bring you the hottest midwest mixtapes for free. Don’t worry, we won’t use your donations to support our crack habbit. Any money donated goes directly to hosting bills at our host, Dreamhost.

The server went down for about 2.5 hours. The main hard drive failed and all the data had to be transferred to a new one. Luckily, the data from the failed drive was recoverable. We should not be experiencing any more issues.
